Hooks and Patterns
Hooks and Patterns are two tabs of the Overview. Hooks compares how your posts open. Patterns compares when they went up, how many slides they have, their hashtags and more. Both use the accounts and the period of your Overview.
To compare accounts of different sizes, both measure each post by its virality factor: its views over its account's median. 1× is a typical post and 2× is double.
Hooks
Hooks has one row per way of opening, named in plain words: Asks a question, Promises a list, Names the topic like a title and so on. Under each name are up to 3 real hooks from your accounts. They're typical examples, close to the row's median, not its best posts.
It only counts the posts OrganicDeck read, because the way a post opens comes from reading it. The line under the title says how many posts of the period that is. When your plan's reads for the month run out, the line says so, and the rest of the posts are read when the reads renew. See How OrganicDeck reads posts.
What each column says
- How it opens: the way of opening and its examples.
- Posts: how many posts of the period open that way.
- Virality factor: the median virality factor of those posts.
- Took off: the share of those posts that reached 2× or more.
- Beats the usual in: in how many accounts this way of opening does better than the account's usual, out of the accounts that opened this way at least 5 times. Hover over it to see each account's figure. When all of those accounts are in one group, it says only in that group.
- Not tried in: accounts with plenty of posts read in the period that have almost never opened this way.
Work with the rows
- Click a column heading to sort by it.
- A way of opening that no account used 5 times goes to the bottom with too few to compare.
- Click the name of a way of opening to see its posts in Posts.
- Slideshow appears on the ways of opening that beat the usual. It opens Slideshows with that way of opening as the reference, for the account with the most posts read that never tried it. See Write a slideshow.
Patterns
Patterns has these panels:
- Posting day and hour: performance by when posts went up, in your time zone, with the Best times. Slots with too few posts aren't compared.
- Slide count: how slideshows do by their number of slides. The line at 1× is each account's median.
- Hook length: how posts do by the number of words in their opening text, over the posts OrganicDeck read.
- Hashtags: the most used in the period, with their posts, median views and save rate. Click a column to sort.
- Views and save rate: each dot is a post. The shaded corner, Saved a lot, few views, holds posts people saved that reached few viewers. Their idea may work with another hook.
- Views distribution: how many posts fall in each range of views and their share of the views. Views from top 10% is the share of views that comes from the 10% most viewed posts.
- Performance by posting date: the figure you choose for the posts published each day, week or month, as of their latest measurement.
An account needs 5 measured posts to be compared. Recent posts are still gaining views, so the newest days tend to look lower.
